Is there any government funding?

Yes. The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is an Ontario Government program set up to assist the funding of the prosthesis for residents of Ontario with OHIP coverage. You can receive a maximum of $195.00 for a full breast prosthesis or $105.00 for a partial breast prosthesis. The government does not fund bras, temporary breast prosthesis, silicone nipples or breast implants. After you have paid in full for your breast form, you may print the application form off the ADP website at www.health.gov.on.ca or obtain an application form by contacting the ADP directly. The phone number for the ADP in Toronto is 416-327-8804 or toll-free 1-800-268-6021. We also have forms at our store for your convenience.

What if I have private insurance?

Before coming for your fitting, check with your insurance provider about their coverage for surgical bras, surgical swimwear, support garments and breast prosthesis. Your private insurance company will usually pay for the balance of the breast form that the ADP does not cover (less the deductible). They will often cover a certain number of surgical bras per year as well.

Will the ADP only cover my first prosthesis?

No. The ADP will fund your prosthesis every two years if a new one is required. Many women will have their prosthesis for two years or more before it fails (the prosthesis may split after wear and tear). If, during the two years, you require a new breast prosthesis because your body size or shape changes or you have a change in your medical condition, you may apply once for a replacement.

Does the ADP pay for my bras?

No. The ADP does not provide funding for any types of bras, only the prosthesis. You will not pay any tax on your surgical bras though.
